How to Rename a Database in cPanel

You can rename a database from cPanel’s database management interface. Create a backup before renaming an important database.

1. Log in to your cPanel account.
2. Open Databases and select Manage My Databases. Older cPanel versions may show this as MySQL Databases.
3. Under Current Databases, find the database you want to rename and click Rename.
4. Enter the new database name and click Proceed.

Important: renaming a database can interrupt active connections. After the rename, update any website or application configuration that still refers to the old database name.
