A separate FTP account lets you grant access to a specific directory without sharing your main cPanel credentials.
- Log in to cPanel.
- In the Files section, click FTP Accounts.
- Under Add FTP Account, enter the account details:
- Log In: Enter a username, such as
newuser. cPanel combines it with your account’s domain to form the full FTP username. - Password: Enter a password or use the password generator.
- Directory: Choose the directory the account can access. For example,
public_htmlgrants access to that directory, whilepublic_html/newuserlimits access to that subdirectory and its contents. - Quota: Set a storage limit or select Unlimited.
- Log In: Enter a username, such as
- Click Create FTP Account.
To connect with an FTP client, use the following details:
- Host: Your website’s hostname or IP address, such as
ftp.example.com. - Username: The full FTP username shown in cPanel, often in the form
newuser@example.com. - Port:
21for standard FTP. - Password: The password you set for the FTP account.
