Tip: if you cannot see the .htaccess file in cPanel File Manager, enable Show Hidden Files (dotfiles) in File Manager settings.
Use an Apache rewrite rule to make a long file path available through a shorter URL. For example, to serve example.com/files/folder/sitemap.html at example.com/sitemap/, add this to the site’s .htaccess file:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^sitemap/?$ /files/folder/sitemap.html [L]Replace the path and filename with the destination you need. This rule matches both /sitemap and /sitemap/. It internally serves the file; the visitor’s address bar remains on the shorter URL.
