Fixing PHP “Allowed memory size exhausted” Errors

16,630 genuine article views Others

The error “Allowed memory size of … bytes exhausted” means a PHP script reached its configured memory limit. The legacy RLimitMem directive shown below is not a standard way to raise PHP’s memory limit and may be unsupported or cause an internal server error if added to .htaccess.

Check the PHP configuration for your hosting account and increase the memory_limit only if your hosting environment allows it. Depending on the server configuration, this may be managed through cPanel’s PHP settings or a supported PHP configuration file. If you cannot change the limit, review the script for excessive memory use or contact your hosting provider for guidance.

Do not add RLimitMem max to your site’s .htaccess file unless your server administrator confirms that the directive is supported.
