This guide covers installing cPanel on a fresh CentOS server and completing the initial WHM setup wizard.
Requirements
- A fresh CentOS 6 or 7 installation on your VPS or server.
- SSH access with root privileges.
Install cPanel
- Connect to your server using an SSH client.
- Run this command:
cd /home && curl -o latest -L https://securedownloads.cpanel.net/latest && sh latest
The installation can take 30–45 minutes. When it finishes, the console will display a completion message.
Open WHM
- Visit
https://your-server-IP-here:2087. - Sign in with the username
rootand your root password. - Complete the WHM Setup Wizard.
Step 1: Accept the agreement
Read and accept the agreement to continue.
Step 2: Set up networking
- Server Contact Email Address: Enter an email address for cPanel-related alerts.
- Hostname: Keep the existing hostname if it is correct.
- Resolvers: Enter the DNS resolver addresses you want the server to use. For example, you can use
8.8.8.8and8.8.4.4.
Scroll down and click Close & Go to Step 3.
Step 3: Configure IP addresses
If you have additional IP addresses that are not listed, add them here. Otherwise, continue to Step 4.
Step 4: Configure nameservers
- Choose a nameserver program, such as BIND or PowerDNS, or keep the default selection.
- Enter the nameservers that your domains will use, such as
ns1.example.comandns2.example.com, replacingexample.comwith your domain. - To configure address records, select the option to configure nameserver address records and enter the server IP address for each nameserver. Add an IPv6 address if applicable. Select the option to add an A record for the hostname if needed.
Click Close & Go to Step 5.
Step 5: Configure services
Keep the default options or change them as needed, then click Close & Go to Step 6.
Step 6: Finish setup
Select Use file system quotas if you want to enable filesystem quotas, then click Finish Setup Wizard.
