Disable Directory Browsing with .htaccess

Tip: if you cannot see the .htaccess file in cPanel File Manager, enable Show Hidden Files (dotfiles) in File Manager settings.

To prevent visitors from seeing a list of files when a directory has no index page, add this line to the site’s .htaccess file:

Options -Indexes

If the file does not exist, create it in the directory where you want the rule to apply. The setting also applies to subdirectories unless they have their own overriding configuration.
